Common uses

Dutagen is for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate.

Directions

It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Take Dutagen exactly as directed. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water and swallow the capsules whole. Do not chew, split crush or split the capsules.

Cautions

• At least 6 months is usually necessary to see if treatment with Dutagen (Dutasteride) will be beneficial.
• Do not stop taking Dutagen (Dutasteride) without first talking to your doctor.
• Women who are or who may become pregnant must not handle Dutagen (Dutasteride) capsules. The medication can be absorbed through the skin and may cause birth defects in the unborn baby.
• Do not donate blood until at least 6 months have passed since you stop taking Dutagen (Dutasteride) to prevent pregnant women from receiving Dutagen (Dutasteride) through blood transfusion.
• tell your doctor if you have or have ever had prostate cancer or liver disease.

Possible side effects

The most common side effects of Dutagen include:
• impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection)
• a decrease in sex drive (libido)
• breast enlargement or tenderness (gynecomastia)
• a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex.
• inability to have or maintain an erection
• difficulty ejaculating
These side effects usually disappear or decrease with continued use of Dutagen, or stopping taking Dutagen altogether.

Additional information

• Dutasteride is for use by men only.
